2009 Season - Women's soccer moves to fifth in region

Through seven matches this season the Augustana women’s soccer team has an undefeated 7-0 record, including a 2-0 win on the road last night at Loras. The Vikings have moved up one spot in the NCAA Division III Central Rankings, jumping from sixth the first week to fifth today. The announcement was made by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.

Veteran head coach Scott Mejia’s team has only allowed one goal so far this year and that came in a 5-1 win over Carthage on Saturday, September 19.

Wheaton has the number one spot and Illinois Wesleyan is in second. Both the Thunder and the Crusaders are on the Vikings schedule later this season. Augustana will host Wheaton at 7:00 p.m. on October 14 and will play at Illinois Wesleyan at 4:00 p.m. on October 24.

Mejia is in his ninth season at the helm of the Augustana women’s soccer program. He led the Vikings to NCAA Division III tournament appearances in 2005 and 2006. Last year he guided the team to a 15-3-0 overall record. His career coaching record at Augustana is an impressive 111-44-10.
