2009 Season - Win at Loras pushes record to 7-0
Goals by Anna Carey (Wheaton Warrenville South HS, Warrenville, Ill.) and Taylor Moesle (Carl Sandburg HS, Orland Park, Ill.) lifted the Vikings to a 2-0 non-conference women’s soccer victory over Loras on Tuesday, September 23. The win, played before a crowd of 115 in the Rock Bowl in Dubuque, Iowa, was the seventh straight for Augustana. In moving their record to 7-0, the Vikings recorded their sixth shutout in seven outings.
Heading into the match, Augustana was ranked sixth in the latest NCAA Division III Central Regional rankings.
The two teams were scoreless through most of the first half before Carey delivered on a free kick from 30 yards out with less than two minutes to play before intermission. It was her first goal of the season. Moesle, tacked on an insurance goal midway through the second half (69:33) when she scored on an assist from Amanda Bucci (Glenbard North HS, Carol Stream, Ill.). It was Moesle’s fifth goal of the year.
Sophomore goalkeeper Kayla Radloff (West Chicago HS, West Chicago, Ill.) picked up her sixth shutout of the campaign as she recorded three saves.
Augustana held an 11-7 advantage in shots but Loras, which fell to 4-4-1 on the year, finished with a 6-1 edge in corner kicks. The Vikings will play Millikin in a College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin contest on Saturday, September 26 at 1:00 p.m. at Ericson Field.
