2009 Season - Setchell win CCIW honor on defense
Augustana senior defensive back Aaron Setchell (Amboy HS, Amboy, Ill.) has been selected as the “Defensive Player of the Week” in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin, it was announced today. Setchell had a tremendous effort in the Vikings impressive 31-12 win over Wisconsin-Platteville on Saturday, September 21 at Ericson Field.
Setchell led Augustana in tackles with 10 (six solo and four assists) and he also intercepted a pass in the victory. His pass interception came with less than two minutes remaining before halftime and the Vikings leading just 7-3. Augustana scored on the ensuing play to build a 14-3 lead and was never headed in moving to 2-1 on the season.
The Vikings held a potent Wisconsin-Platteville offense, which had been averaging 30 points per game, to just 12 points and only 29 yards rushing on 21 attempts.
Setchell leads Augustana in tackles this season with a total of 23 (11 solo and 12 assists) and has two pass interceptions and one fumble recovery, which he returned 22 yards for a score in the win over Greenville on September 12.
The son of Craig and Janet Setchell of Amboy, Illinois, Aaron is a business administration, finance and management major. He is the second Augustana player this season to win CCIW “Player of the Week” honors. Last week, quarterback David Lee was the CCIW “Offensive Player of the Week” in the victory of Greenville.
