2009-2010 Season - Vikings drop CCIW double header
WHEATON, Ill. – Senior Jenna Richardson (Melrose Park Walther Lutheran HS, Bellwood, Ill.) picked up a pair of wins, but the Augustana women’s tennis team dropped a double header to Wheaton and North Central on Saturday, September 19 in Wheaton, Illinois. The Vikings are now 5-7 overall and conclude College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin regular season play with a 2-4 mark.
After being swept in the morning match by the Thunder, Augustana won its first match of the day when Richardson and senior Tricia Crawford (Decorah HS, Decorah, Iowa) pulled out a (9-8 (7-4)) victory over Cory Schillerstrom and Alicia DeGrado at No. 1 doubles. Senior Emily Doemland (Downers Grove South HS, Westmont, Ill.) and Sheri Hendricks (Wheaton Warrenville South HS, Warrenville, Ill.) also had a close doubles match, dropping an (8-6) decision to Abby Conover and Jessica Ignarski at No. 3 doubles.
Richardson and Doemland both earned singles victories, but Augustana fell 6-3 to the Cardinals. Richardson defeated Schillerstrom (7-5, 2-6, (10-8)) at No. 1 singles. Doemland rallied from a set down and 0-3 in the second set to beat Micheletti (1-6, 7-6 (2), (10-6)) at No. 3 singles.
