2009-2010 Season - Vandersee third at Iowa Wesleyan Invite
MUSCATINE, Iowa – Freshman Megan Vandersee (Sterling HS, Sterling, Ill.) shot an 82 and placed third overall to help lead Augustana to a fourth place finish in the Iowa Wesleyan Invitational on Friday, September 18. The tournament was played on the par 72 layout at the Muscatine Municipal Golf Course in Muscatine, Iowa. The Vikings, led by Vandersee, recorded a score of 354 to finish fourth in the six team field.
It was the lowest score of the season for veteran head coach Ron Standley’s team. The previous low was a 363 recorded at the Augustana Fall Classic on Thursday, September 9 at Emeis Golf Course in Davenport, Iowa. St. Ambrose won the event with a 341 while Ashford took second with 347 and St. Francis was third with a 348. Carl Sandburg was fifth (381) and Iowa Wesleyan sixth (397). Augustana was the only NCAA Division III school in the tournament.
Vandersee went out in 44 on the front nine before recovering nicely to record a 38 on the back nine. She was five strokes behind tournament winner Jordan Davis of Ashford, who shot a 77, including a scorching 37 on the front nine. Ashlie Offerman of St. Francis was second with an 81 and Tori Bown of St. Ambrose was fourth with the same score as Vandersee.
The number two player for the Vikings was sophomore Brittany Carr (Lincoln-Way East HS, Frankfort, Ill.), who also made it into the top 10 in the tournament. Carr had an 88 to place ninth. She shot a 45 on the front nine and came back with a 43. Freshman Morgan Wilkinson (Westmont HS, Westmont, Ill.) was 15th with a 91 and Liz Scarlata (Fremd HS, Palatine, Ill.) took 19th with a 93. Jessica Berens (Schaumburg HS, Schaumburg, Ill.) shot a 98 and Katy Mascheri (Hersey HS, Mount Prospect, Ill.) had a 101.
