Peace Corps Is Coming!
Tuesday, September 22, 2009
2:00-5:00pm - Evald 104 - Interviews
5:30-7:30pm - Evald 017 - Information Session
Carrie Teiken, Peace Corps Recruiter, will hold interviews and lead an information session. As we strive to encourage students to lead lives of "leadership and service in a diverse and changing world," the Peace Corps is an opportunity for Augustana graduates to make a difference in their global community. In 1961, President John F. Kennedy established the Peace Corps to promote world peace and friendship.
The Peace Corps' mission has three simple goals:
- Helping the people of interested countries in meeting their need for trained men and women.
- Helping promote a better understanding of Americans on the part of the peoples served.
- Helping promote a better understanding of other peoples on the part of Americans.

Advancing Augustana
The CVR is sponsoring a series of conversations led by Pres. Bahls for faculty to have opportunity for input about the overall situation of the college and how we should proceed, especially in light of the economic situation.
Please put these on your calendar. This will be one significant opportunity for faculty to provide input on a series of questions that we face as a college. Each of the conversations will focus on an issue.
The remaining conversations, all in the Evald Great Hall, are scheduled for:

Coffee and Conversation
Join your colleagues again on Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. in the Evald Great Hall for weekly Coffee and Conversations. Talk to your colleagues. Enjoy a hot cup of Starbucks coffee ($1.50 for a 12 oz. cup of coffee, FREE for the first 10 people). Indulge in a sweet treat. Stop by as you are able. We look forward to seeing you Wednesday!
Volunteer Fair 2009 - What are the needs of your community?
The CVR draws on five key questions. One of those is "What are the needs of your community?" On Wednesday, September 9, twelve community organizations helped answer that question at the CVR Volunteer Fair. Each represented a different part of the Quad Cities community and the needs of our area. Students were invited to listen to the stories of community partners. Many picked up information regarding volunteer opportunities with the agencies. Many non-profits are depending on community members to volunteer to meet their great need. We believe the Augustana community can rise to the occasion.
