ACTL
Greetings from the Center for Teaching & Learning.
I hope you are enjoying this stretch of beautiful weather we've been having!
I have spent a lot of time this past week poring over the results of the ACTL survey and have begun to plan programs based on your responses. I remind you that I have posted the reports generated by iSalient (our survey software) to our ACTL site:
http://moodle.augustana.edu/course/view.php?id=538
for anyone that may be interested. There you will also find results (in Excel) categorized by rank, thanks to the generous help(!) of Angie Williams and Mary Kilbride. This view has also been very helpful to me as I plan future programming and resources. Speaking of which, here are a few to look for now and in the coming weeks:
- Evidence of Professional Growth: What Might Your Portfolios Look Like? (10:30 -11:30 in Olin 307) Steve Hager (Biology) and Mike Egan (Education) will provide examples of course and career portfolios and lead us in a discussion of ways that we can document student learning in an individual class, growth in our professional careers and how the two might fit together.
- Video How -To's (http://moodle.augustana.edu/course/view.php?id=538#section-10) Shawn Beattie has produced some video guides to help you with tasks you may want to perform in Outlook and on moodle. Check 'em out! If you find them helpful, we can produce others covering computer skills you'd like to have; just let us know!
- Grades in moodle (3:45 - 5:15 in Olin 204) Brian Katz (Math) will demonstrate the gradebooks he has set up in moodle, from the basics to weighting individual assignments and categories. Beth Whitty & Shawn Beattie (ITS) will be on hand to provide assistance in this hands-on training session.
For those avid readers of the ACTL section of the Faculty Newsletter, you will recall that I reported last week that "over 70% of you are interested or very interested in incorporating active learning strategies." Not only is this the most popular overall, in every rank this was the most requested teaching-oriented development opportunity. Planning has begun! Stay tuned.
Have a great week.
