2009 Season - Vikings fall 2-1 to Hamline
OSHKOSH, Wis. – An early goal by senior Dave Shrigley (Wheaton Warrenville South HS, Wheaton, Ill.) held up for most of the contest, but a pair of late goals by Hamline proved to be the difference in a 2-1 loss for the Augustana men’s soccer team on Sunday, September 13 in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. The Vikings fall to 2-3 overall after a pair of one goal defeats this weekend.
Shrigley’s goal came at the 2:05 mark of the opening half and quickly gave Augustana the lead. Senior John Linden (Fremd HS, Libertyville, Ill.) and freshman Kevin Wyrostek (Naperville North HS, Naperville, Ill.) each earned an assist on the scoring play. The Vikings finished the opening period with a 4-1 edge in shots and also attempted five corner kicks to none for Hamline, taking the one goal edge to the locker room.
The Blue & Gold continued to maintain the advantage until Hamline’s Drew Lukas broke through for the came tying goal at the 72:51 mark to knot the game at 1-1. Lukas later tallied the game winner at the 82:04 mark, his fifth goal of the season, as Hamline held on for the one goal victory.
Senior goalkeeper Mike Dolan (Libertyville HS, Libertyville, Ill.) made five saves and played the entire 90 minutes for the Vikings. Hamline outshot Augustana 8-2 in the second half to finish with a 9-6 shot advantage.
