2009-2010 Season - Crawford finishes 4-0 to lead Vikings
ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – The Augustana women’s tennis team finished up a busy week with a pair of home matches against Loras and Millikin on Monday, September 7 in Rock Island, Illinois. The Vikings dropped a 5-4 decision to the Duhawks in the morning match, but rebounded with a 9-0 victory over the Big Blue. The Blue & Gold are 4-3 overall and 2-1 in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin.
Seniors Jenna Richardson (Melrose Park Walther Lutheran HS, Bellwood, Ill.) and Tricia Crawford (Decorah HS, Decorah, Iowa) came through for the Vikings in the first match of the day with a (9-7) win at No. 1 doubles against Alejandra Ruales and Lindsay Dunkirk. Trailing 2-1 after losses at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles, the senior duo again responded with singles wins at No. 1 and No. 2 singles. Richardson beat Ruales (6-1, 6-1) at No. 1 singles, and Crawford battled past Dunkirk (6-4, 6-4) at No. 2 singles. Freshman Meghan Wethington (Geneseo HS, Geneseo, Ill.) also pulled out a tight match, rallying from a one set deficit to earn a (4-6, 6-4, (10-4)) win against Sarah Dickhut at No. 6 singles. Loras won in straight sets at No. 3, No. 4, and No. 5 to secure the 5-4 victory.
Augustana rebounded with a convincing victory against the Big Blue in the afternoon match. Crawford and senior Emily Doemland (Downers Grove South HS, Westmont, Ill.) were (8-4) winners against Hannah Church and Michelle Hart at No. 1 doubles. The Vikings won the other two doubles matches without dropping a single game. Junior Tricia Sapio (Barrington HS, Hoffman Estates, Ill.) and sophomore Brittany Reece (Naperville Neuqua Valley HS, Naperville, Ill.) won (8-0) at No. 2 doubles over Cara Frank and Michelle Micor. Wethington and sophomore Alyssa Quitschau (Jacobs HS, Algonquin, Ill.) raced past Kelsy Whitney and Alyssa Simmons for an (8-0) win at No. 3 doubles.
The Blue & Gold finished the day by winning all six singles matches without dropping a single game. Richardson (No. 1), Crawford (No. 2), Doemland (No. 3), Sapio (No. 4), Reece (No. 5), and freshman Krista Panko (Geneva HS, Geneva, Ill.) (No. 6) were all (6-0, 6-0) winners for the Vikings.
