2009 Season - Vikings shutout Dominican 4-0
ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – A stout Viking defense and a relentless offensive attack once again keyed the Augustana women’s soccer team in its 4-0 victory over Dominican on Sunday, September 6 in Rock Island, Illinois. The Blue & Gold are 2-0 on the young season and have outscored the opposition 7-0 in two contests.
Sophomore Erin Coulson (Naperville Neuqua Valley HS, Naperville, Ill.) scored Augustana’s first goal for the second straight game, tallying her second goal of the season at the 7:19 mark on an assist from sophomore Ashley Higuchi (Smoky Hill HS, Aurora, Colo.). The Vikings peppered Dominican goalkeeper Megan Schultz with 14 shots during the first half, but the game remained 1-0 at intermission.
Senior Lauren Polock (Wheaton North HS, Wheaton, Ill.) fired in her first goal of the season at the 52:36 mark to extend the lead to 2-0 for the Vikings. Higuchi picked up her second assist of the day on the goal. Minutes later, freshman Taylor Moesle (Carl Sandburg HS, Orland Park, Ill.) scored her first collegiate goal on an assist from Polock at the 55:24 mark. Freshman Paige Knippenberg (University HS, Normal, Ill.) finished the scoring with her first goal of the year at the 83:33 mark.
Sophomore Kayla Radloff (West Chicago HS, West Chicago, Ill.) played the first 74:10 in goal and kept her scoreless streak alive for the season. Freshman Bridget McDermott (Prospect HS, Mt. Prospect, Ill.) came on in relief for the final 15:50 to finish the second straight shutout the Vikings.
Augustana outshot Dominican 20-1 and finished with a 5-1 advantage in corner kick attempts.
