2009 Season - Second half flurry sparks win
After being held scoreless in the first half of the season opener with Edgewood on Tuesday, September 1 in Madison, Wisconsin, Augustana exploded in the second stanza. The Vikings tallied three goals in final 30 minutes of the contest to pick up a 3-0 victory in the season opener for both teams.
The first two goals were scored about a minute apart as sophomore Erin Coulson (Neuqua Valley HS, Naperville, Ill.) scored the first one at the 59:52 mark and at 60:59 it was fellow sophomore Jenna Doyle’s (Regis Jesuit HS, Parker, Colo.) turn. Both goals by Coulson and Doyle were unassisted.
Augustana got the third goal of the night from sophomore Holly Timm (Northglenn HS, Denver, Colo.) when she scored on a rebound at the 81:17 mark. Freshman Sierra Makeever (Rockford Lutheran HS, Rockford, Ill.) picked up the assist on the play.
The Vikings held a 23-5 advantage in shots for the game but in the second half they were all over the Edgewood half of the field. Augustana outshot the home team 16-1 in the final 45 minutes of play. The Vikings had a 15-0 edge in corner kicks.
Sophomore Kayla Radloff (West Chicago HS, West Chicago, Ill.) picked up the shutout by working all 90 minutes in goal and she recorded three saves.
