2009-2010 Season - Richardson earns 100th career win
ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – Senior Jenna Richardson (Melrose Park Walther Lutheran HS, Bellwood, Ill.), a three-time “Most Valuable Player” for the Augustana women’s tennis team, won her 100th career match on Tuesday, September 1 as the Vikings defeated Dubuque 8-1. Richardson teamed with senior Tricia Crawford (Decorah HS, Decorah, Iowa) for a win at No. 1 doubles to nail down her 99th win and then followed with victory at No. 1 singles for her 100th win. Augustana improves to 2-1 overall this season.
Richardson and Crawford opened the scoring with a decisive (8-0) victory at No. 1 doubles, defeating Hannah Schneidewend and Emma Bridgett. The duo is 11-4 after just starting to play together last spring. Freshman Meghan Wethington (Geneseo HS, Geneseo, Ill.) and sophomore Alyssa Quitschau (Jacobs HS, Algonquin, Ill.) also put together a strong showing, racing out to an early lead and winning (8-3) over Lindsay Bonnell and Jackie Ventrice at No. 3 doubles. Juniors Tricia Sapio (Barrington HS, Hoffman Estates, Ill.) and Justine Stukas (Downers Grove North HS, Downers Grove, Ill.) teamed together for an (8-5) win at No. 2 doubles, knocking off Kristina McWethy and Sam Miller.
Augustana continued its strong play in singles, winning five of the six matches in straight sets. Richardson won (6-1, 6-0) against Schneidewend at No. 1 singles, and Crawford earned a (6-3, 6-1) victory over Bridgett at No. 2 singles. Doemland was a (6-0, 6-1) winner at No. 3 singles, beating McWethy. Freshman Krista Panko (Geneva HS, Geneva, Ill.) also won (6-0, 6-1) at No. 5 singles against Miller, and junior Sheri Hendricks grabbed her first varsity match of the season (6-4, 6-0) over Ventrice at No. 6 singles. Sophomore Brittany Reece (Naperville Neuqua Valley HS, Naperville, Ill.) battled back from a one set deficit and fought off multiple match points before falling (6-4, 2-6, (12-10)) to Bonnell at No. 4 singles.
