2009 Season - Vikings nab third in preseason poll

The Augustana Vikings, coming off a 7-3 campaign in 2008, have been chosen for a third place finish in 2009 according to the annual pre-season vote of College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin football coaches. The Vikings picked up 36 points and one first place vote in the polling where coaches vote for the seven other schools in the conference in order of predicted finish. Points are assigned in reverse order of voting (seven points for first, six for second, etc.). Coaches may not vote for their own team.

North Central, which won the CCIW title last year with a 7-0 record, received the nod as the favorite. The Cardinals garnered 48 points and six first place votes. Wheaton was picked to finish second with 42 points and one first place vote. Behind Augustana, Illinois Wesleyan had 30 points in fourth place. Elmhurst was fifth with 28 and Carthage was sixth with 20. Millikin (13) and North Park (7) rounded out the field.
