2009 Season - Volleyball team picked for third

After a strong finish in 2008 that ended with a second straight appearance in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin tournament championship, the Augustana Vikings have been tabbed for third in the 2009 pre-season poll. Second year head coach Janelle Hester’s team garnered 37 points and one first place vote. The Vikings went 23-12 overall and were 2-5 in the CCIW a year ago.

Carthage, which was 32-5 overall and won the league title with a 7-0 mark, was picked to win with 48 total points and six first place votes. Illinois Wesleyan claimed the second position with 40 points and one first place vote. North Central took fourth with 31 points while Elmhurst was fifth with 28. Millikin (19), Wheaton (14) and North Park (7) rounded out the field.

Hester’s team will open the 2009 season at home against Mount Mercy on September 1.
