2009 Season - Vikings tabbed for third in CCIW
After compiling a 15-4-0 overall record in 2008, the 2009 Augustana Vikings women’s soccer team has been picked for third place in a vote of the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin coaches. The annual pre-season poll is done by the head women’s soccer coaches in the CCIW. Each coach votes for the seven other schools in the conference in order of predicted finish. Points are assigned in reverse order of voting (seven points for first, six for second, etc.). Coaches may not vote for their own team.
The Vikings of head coach Scott Mejia picked up 39 points to place second. 2008 NCAA runner-up Wheaton won the poll with 49 points, including seven first place votes. The Thunder went 22-4-2 overall and 5-2 in the CCIW. The second place team in the poll was Illinois Wesleyan with 40 points and one first place vote.
Trailing Augustana in the poll was Carthage with 30 points while Elmhurst was fifth with 27 points. North Park (16), Millikin (14) and North Central (9) rounded out the poll.
Augustana will open the 2009 season with a match on September 1 in Madison, Wisconsin against Edgewood at 8:00 p.m.
