Financial Assistance
Students applying for financial assistance based on need must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as well as the Supplemental Financial Assistance Application.
Financial Assistance and Business Office account information is available to students. Parents (or custodial parent in case of divorce) whose students are claimed as dependents may also access this information.
It is the student's responsibility to be certain all documentation of external scholarships has been appropriately processed and returned to the Office of Financial Assistance.
Students who wish to be considered for Illinois State Awards (MAP Grant) must have a FAFSA processed prior to March 1.
Each student has twelve (12) terms of eligibility for institutional gift assistance, fifth-year seniors may demonstrate eligibility for ISAC, Pell and Stafford loans.
Notice to students concerning penalties for drug violations
In accordance with the requirements of HEA 101, Sec. 485 (k) each institution of higher education shall provide to each student a clear written notice that advises the student of the penalties under section 484 (r) (2)
Suspension of eligibility for drug-related offenses
In general, a student who has been convicted of any offense under any Federal or State law involving the possession or sale of a controlled substance shall not be eligible to receive any grant, loan, or work assistance under this title during the period beginning on the date of such conviction and ending after the interval specified in the following table:

(2) Rehabilitation - A student whose eligibility has been suspended under the information outlined above may resume eligibility before the end of the ineligibility period set forth above
If- A.) the student satisfactorily completes a drug rehabilitation program that-
- (i) Complies with such criteria as the Secretary shall prescribe in regulations for purposes of this paragraph: and
- (ii) Includes two unannounced drug tests;
B) the student successfully passes two unannounced drug tests conducted by a drug rehabilitation program that complies with such criteria as the Secretary shall proscribe in regulations for purposes of subparagraph (A)(i) or
C) the conviction is reversed, set aside, or otherwise rendered nugatory.
Financial Assistance Policies
Requirements
Augustana Fall International Terms
Students who receive financial assistance and plan to spend the fall term abroad will receive all federal, state and institutional aid for that term. The amount will not be increased or decreased because of participation in this program. Faculty/staff tuition benefits as well as tuition exchange awards cannot be used for terms abroad.
Federal College Work Study
Any student who has been awarded Federal Work Study as part of his/her financial assistance package should see the student employment coordinator for help in locating a campus job.
Endowed/Gift Scholarships
When a student is recommended to receive an endowed scholarship, and currently receives institutional aid-whether based or not on need-the institutional aid will be adjusted by the dollar amount of the endowed scholarship.
Faculty/Staff Members and ISAC MAP Awards
All Augustana faculty, administration and staff members with a child or spouse enrolled in at least 3 credits must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) prior to March 1 if residents of the State of Illinois. Completion of the FAFSA will determine eligibility for the Illinois State Monetary Award Program (MAP). Illinois residents who are MAP grant-eligible but are considered late applicants by ISAC will lose MAP funds. These lost funds will not be made up with tuition exemption dollars. In addition, this process must be followed by all faculty, administration and staff members who themselves will be enrolled for at least 3 credit hours for a term, excluding summer. Those with a bachelor's degree are not required to file the FAFSA.
Family Allowance Grant
Students from families with two or more children enrolled full-time at Augustana are given a $3,000 family allowance in their financial assistance package. Students receiving $3,000 or more in gift assistance from any other source (state, federal or Augustana aid programs) are not eligible for this award. This grant is not available for enrolled married couples or in the case of a parent and child enrolled at the same time. Students who have completed a degree program or who have completed twelve terms of attendance are not eligible for this grant.
Internships
Financial assistance shall be readjusted when a student participates in an internship of seven hours or less.
Augustana Lutheran Brotherhood Scholarships
Eligible Lutheran students will receive up to $1,000 per academic year for four years. Students receiving $1,000 or more in gift assistance from any other source (state, federal, or Augustana aid programs) are ineligible for this award. To be considered for the scholarship, the student's pastor must send a letter to the Office of Financial Assistance prior to June 1 indicating the student is a member in good standing in the church.
Non-Attendance
Classes that a student never attends will not be counted toward full-time enrollment status. Aid will be adjusted based on part-time enrollmment if a student is considered part-time based on non-attendance in a class or classes. Students who do not return the winter term after having attended fall term are not guaranteed the same amount of financial assistance if they return spring term.
Part-Time Enrollment
Augustana awards no college aid to students who are enrolled part-time (less than eight hours).
Part-Time ISAC MAP Awards
The Illinois Student Assistance Commission will allow partial MAP eligibility to students who are enrolled for 3 to 8 credit hours.
Pell Grants
Pell Grants may be awarded to students who attend full-time (8 credits or more), 3/4-time (6 or 7 credits), 1/2-time (4 or 5 credits), or less than 1/2- time (1, 2, 3 credits). The awards are adjusted accordingly.
Summer Term Financial Assistance
Augustana funds are not available summer terms. If eligible, Pell Grants are available. Contact the Financial Assistance Office (309) 794-7207 for additional information.
Tuition Deposit, Payment and Refund Policy
Deposits for all first-time students is $350. This deposit is non-refundable.
