2009-10 Season - Women's swimmers win CSCAA academic award
The Augustana women’s swimming team was named to the College Swimming Coaches Association of America “Scholar All-American Team” for the 2009 spring semester, it was announced today. There were 83 NCAA Division III teams named to the CSCAA list and the Vikings of first year head coach Scott Johannsen made with a combined grade point average of 3.33. New York University headed the list with a sterling 3.56 GPA.
The CSCAA selects and honors teams as Scholar All-American Teams twice a year, once after each semester (fall/winter and spring). In order to earn CSCAA Scholar All-American team honors, a swimming team must have a minimum grade point average of 3.00 on a 4.00 scale for a semester.
Under Johannsen the Vikings ended the 2008-09 season with a 4-2 dual meet record and a fifth place finish in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin. Augustana won its own invitational and also took first place in the Eureka Invitational at Eureka College and the Panther Invitational at Principia College. The Vikings were second at the Illinois Wesleyan Invitational, third at the IWU Halloween Invitational and fourth at the Grinnell Invitational.
