2009 Season - Football adds sixth home game for 2009

Due to some last minute switches in conference affiliation at Greenville College the Augustana Vikings have picked up an extra home game heading into the 2009 football season. The game with Greenville, originally scheduled to be played on Saturday, September 12 in Greenville, Illinois has been moved to Ericson Field. The date will stay the same but the game time has changed and kick-off will now be at 6:00 p.m. The Panthers have switched conferences in football and requested the change in location for the game.

Last year the two teams met for the first time and Augustana scored a 30-0 victory on September 13 under the lights at Ericson Field. Augustana and Greenville will meet in 2010 on September 4 in Greenville.

Veteran head coach Jim Barnes’ team will have six home games this fall. In addition to the Greenville game, the Vikings will play Wisconsin-Platteville on September 19 and then face Elmhurst on October 3. That gives Augustana a stretch of three straight home games after opening the season on the road at Coe on September 5. Following the three game home stand the Vikings head to Wheaton on October 10 before coming home for an October 17 homecoming tilt with Illinois Wesleyan. Carthage comes to Ericson Field for a 6:00 p.m. contest on October 24, making it five out of six games at home. Augustana travels to Chicago, Illinois on October 31 for a game with North Park and then comes home for a battle with defending College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin champion North Central on November 7. The regular season ends on November 14 with a game at Millikin.

Augustana went 7-3 in 2008 and 5-2 in the CCIW, giving the Vikings a second place tie in the league standings with Wheaton.
