The papers of the Anderson family were donated to the Swenson Center in April of 1982 by their son Idof Anderson, Jr. of Sandwich, Massachusetts. The collection consists of various biographical papers, including the original certificate of naturalization for Idof Anderson.
Biographical Note
Idof Anderson arrived in America from Sweden in 1903 at the age of 19. He sailed aboard the S.S. Saxonia of the Cunard Line from Helsingborg to Boston in August. Idof was born November 6, 1883 in Höganäs, Malmöhus län. He was the son of the factory worker, Karl Andreason. Idof was trained as an electrician in Sweden, but was unable to find work and immigrated to Massachusetts in 1903.
Gurli Osberg Anderson was born on October 3, 1884. She came from Malmö with her parents when she was 1 1/2 years old in 1886 to Brooklyn, New York.
Gurli and Idof married in 1908 and had two children, Idof, Jr. 1909 and Ruth, 1913. The family was member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Worcester. Idof, Jr. passed away in 1962 and Gurli in 1979. Both are buried in the New Swedish Cemetery in Worcester.
