2008-2009 Season - Conte leads golfers at Scot-Fire Invite
Senior Kevin Conte (Montini Catholic HS, Clarendon Hills, Ill.) led the Augustana men’s golf team to an eighth place finish at the Scot-Fire Invite this past weekend. The first round of the event was held at Soangetaha Country Club in Galesburg, Illinois with the final round played at Gibson Wood Golf Course in Monmouth, Illinois. Conte fired rounds of 80 and 74 to finish in a tie for 20th place with a total of 154. Joel Winters of Central won medalist honors with a two round total of 143 (74-69).
Central also won the team title with a score of 601. One stroke back was Millikin at 602, followed closely by Monmouth (604) and Black Hawk Community College (607). Illinois Central Community College rounded out the top five with a team score of 613. Knox (621) and Grinnell (622) also finished ahead of the Vikings. Augustana was eighth after shooting rounds of 323 and 316 to finish at 639. The Blue & Gold finished ahead of Monmouth White (641), Carl Sandburg Community College (653), Southeastern Community College (675), Illinois College (677), Grinnell “B” (686), and Robert Morris (702).
Ted Keopple (Geneseo HS, Geneseo, Ill.) and Zach Kinscherf (Quincy Notre Dame HS, Quincy, Ill.) each shot a total of 161 to finish in a tie for 35th place. Keopple had rounds of 83 and 78 while Kinscherf shot 82 and 79. Phil Litchfield (Benet Academy, Darien, Ill.) was fourth for Augustana with a score of 165, tying for the 46th spot. He fired rounds of 78 and 87. Greg Karesh (Downers Grove South HS, Downers Grove, Ill.) rounded out the scoring for the Vikings with a two day total of 176. He tied for 62nd place with rounds of 91 and 85.
