2009 Season - Hottle sets school record in steeplechase
The weather conditions on Friday night at the Augustana Twilight Qualifier were terrible but that didn’t stop the Vikings from recording some nice performances in the final regular season track & field meet of 2009. The 400 relay team of Ainsley Fedler (Burlington HS, Burlington, Iowa), Kai Frazier (United Township HS, East Moline, Ill.), Krista Dayton (Grinnell HS, Grinnell, Iowa) and Keli Coleman (Carmel HS, Grayslake, Ill.) qualified for the NCAA Division III national meet and Hannah Hottle (Monmouth-Roseville HS, Monmouth, Ill.) set a new school record in the 3000 steeplechase.
Fedler, Frazier, Dayton and Coleman finished second in the 400 relay behind Wartburg but the Augustana quartet recorded a time of :48.33 and that was good enough to get under the NCAA Division III national qualifying mark. The NCAA Division III national meet will be held on May 20-23 at Marietta College in Marietta, Ohio. Hottle won the 3000 meter steeplechase in a time of 11:36.80, breaking her own school record of 11:46.14 set in 2008.
The Vikings also got victories in the 1500 and the 1600 relay. Samantha Laskowski (Reavis HS, Oak Lawn, Ill.) won the 1500 in 5:08.37 and the 1600 relay of Angela Baumgartner (Princeton HS, Princeton, Ill.), Laskowski, Susan Thompson (Glenbard South HS, Glen Ellyn, Ill.) and Paige Deike (LeRoy HS, LeRoy, Ill.) won with a time of 4:19.21.
