2009 Season - Baseball gets four all-conference players
Four Augustana baseball players were selected to the all-conference team in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin, it was announced today. Sophomore Dave Hoffman (Cary Grove HS, Cary, Ill.) and John Wagle (Rock Island HS, Rock Island, Ill.) were named to the first team while senior Myles Kurnick (Buffalo Grove HS, Arlington Heights, Ill.) and junior Eric Izzo (Lockport HS, Lockport, Ill.) were second team selections.
Hoffman made the team as an infielder while Wagle was the first team choice at designated hitter. Kurnick was chosen as an outfielder and Izzo made the team as an infielder. For Wagle it was his third straight appearance on the first team while Izzo made the first team last year prior to his second team selection.
Hoffman batted .363 with 58 hits in 160 at-bats while scoring 34 runs with 13 doubles, one triple, two home runs and 31 runs-batted-in. In CCIW action he hit .420 with 34 hits in 81 at-bats. Wagle appeared and started all 40 games for the Vikings and he hit .330 with 58 hits in 176 at-bats while scoring 32 runs. He had eight doubles, two triples and three home runs with 33 runs-batted-in.
Kurnick batted .317 overall with 32 hits in 101 at bats with 27 runs scored, five doubles, one home run and 16 RBI. He hit .345 in 18 CCIW games. Izzo played in 35 games on the season and batted .319 with 43 hits in 135 at-bats. He scored 36 runs and had 12 doubles, one triple, three home runs and 25 RBI. He batted .338 in 18 conference games.
Augustana finished the season with a 23-17 overall record and a 10-10 mark in the CCIW.
