2009 Season - Vikings win three events at NIU Invitational

DEKALB, Ill. - The Augustana women’s track & field team, currently ranked 11th in NCAA Division III, helped Northern Illinois christen its new track facility at the NIU Invitational on Saturday, May 9 in DeKalb, Illinois. Three Vikings won individual events as the Huskies hosted their first track meet since 1982.

Junior Caitlin Quinn (Metamora HS, Metamora, Ill.) cleared 10’ 0” to win the pole vault. Sophomore Meaghan Reaney (Lincoln Way Central HS, New Lenox, Ill.) won the 800 in 2:30.13 and sophomore Allison Schaley (Cary-Grove HS, Cary, Ill.) took the 400 hurdles with a time of 1:06.26. Schaley was also second in the 100 hurdles in :17.96.

Kelsey Duhai (Woodstock HS, Woodstock, Ill.) placed second in the long jump with a leap of 18’ 1 ¾”. Freshman Sarah Johnson (Grayslake North HS, Lake Villa, Ill.) ran 11:59.39 in the 3000 to take second. Junior Kai Frazier (United Township HS, East Moline, Ill.) was second in the 200 in :26.00 and junior Angela Baumgartner (Princeton HS, Princeton, Ill.) was second in the 400 in 1:03.24. The 400 relay team of Ainsley Fedler (Burlington HS, Burlington, Iowa), Frazier, Krista Dayton (Grinnell HS, Grinnell, Iowa) and Keli Coleman (Carmel HS, Grayslake, Ill.) finished second with a clocking of :49.11.

Freshman Amber Gruber (Rolling Meadows HS, Arlington Heights, Ill.) was third in the hammer with a toss of 112’ 1” and junior Krystal Damiano (Cary-Grove HS, Cary, Ill.) was third in the 1500 with a time of 5:11.02.
