2009 Season - Women's track & field jumps to 11th in nation
The Augustana Vikings women’s track & field team of veteran head coach Fred Whiteside have moved up one spot in the NCAA Division III national poll. This week the Vikings are 11 th with 180.14 points after being 12 th the week before with 172.43 points in the poll, which is conducted the United States Track & Field/Cross Country Coaches Association.
Washington University is first for the second week in a row. The Bears have 194.46 points, just ahead of Wisconsin-Oshkosh with 194.45. Wisconsin-Eau Claire is third with 190.44 while St. Thomas (190.33) and Tufts (189.74) rounded out the top five.
So far this year Augustana has won three invitationals. The Vikings took the Early Spring Opener on March 21, the Viking Olympics on March 30 and the Augustana Invitational on April 17. They were fourth of 17 teams at the Central of Iowa Invitational and they were third of 10 at the Lee Calhoun Memorial Relays. In both the Central Invitational and the Calhoun Relays, Augustana was the first NCAA Division III team in the standings. The Vikings placed fourth in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin championship last weekend.
