2009 Season - Vikings fall to Carthage in first round of CCIW tournament
KENOSHA, Wisconsin - It took until the top of the sixth inning for Augustana to collect its first hit in a 12-5 loss to Carthage. The game was played in the first round of the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin baseball tournament in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
Carthage jumped all over Vikings starter Mike Trotta (Niles Notre Dame HS, Chicago, Ill.), scoring three runs in the bottom of the first inning and then putting six on the board in the second. Eventually the Red Men built their lead to 12-0 before Augustana could mount any kind of an attack.
Jordan Jaehne-Llanas carried a no-hitter into the sixth when Joe Moran (Niles Notre Dame HS, Chicago, Ill.) finally broke through with a single through the left side. Moran went to second on a ground out and scored on a single by Myles Kurnick (Buffalo Grove HS, Arlington Heights, Ill.).
In the ninth inning the Vikings scored four runs with Mike Lamb's (Ottawa HS, Ottawa, Ill.) single accounting for two RBI. Lamb had two hits, two RBI and scored a run while Moran had two hits and scored a pair of runs. Kurnick also collected two RBI.
