2009 Season - Seven Vikings named to all-CCIW softball team

Seven Augustana softball players were selected to the 2009 all-conference team in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin, it was announced today. Three were named to the first team and four made the second team.

Junior catcher Brittany Snoreck (Carl Sandburg HS, Orland Park, Ill.), junior third baseman Karlee Quaritsch (Palatine HS, Palatine, Ill.) and sophomore outfielder Dawn Kernich (Mt. Olive HS, Mt. Olive, Ill.) were named to the first team. Junior pitcher Jackie Gill (Heyworth HS, Heyworth, Ill.), junior shortstop Chrissy Rosin (Niles West HS, Morton Grove, Ill.), junior outfielder Missy Fobert (Rock Island Alleman HS, Rock Island, Ill.) and sophomore third baseman/designated hitter Stephanie Sarb (Lisle HS, Lisle, Ill.) were second team selections.

Snoreck and Quaritsch are both repeat picks on the first team while the others were named to the all-conference team for the first time in their respective careers.

Snoreck led the Vikings in hitting this spring with a .410 average. In 42 games she had 50 hits in 122 at-bats with 29 runs scored, 12 doubles, six home runs and 36 runs-batted-in. She had a .656 slugging percentage with 13 walks and three stolen bases.

Quaritsch hit .358 with 49 hits in 137 at-bats and was the leader in power production for the Blue & Gold. She led the team in home runs with nine and in runs-batted-in with 38. She smacked nine doubles and stole nine bases.

Kernich batted .400 with 38 hits in 95 at-bats while scoring 20 runs and she had 12 stolen bases.

Gill became the number one pitcher early in the season and she responded by going 13-8 with a 2.06 earned run average in 119 innings. She made 22 appearances, 21 of them as a starter, and struck out 60 with 24 base-on-balls.

Rosin committed just six errors at shortstop in 153 total chances and had a fielding percentage of .961. She batted .358 from her leadoff position with 49 hits in 137 at-bats with 33 runs scored. She had nine doubles, three triples and collected 24 RBI. Rosin led the team in stolen bases with 17.

Fobert has been the starting centerfielder each of the last two seasons. She had 51 putouts and two assists and did not make an error. She batted .347 with 34 hits in 98 at-bats while scoring 30 runs with six doubles and four home runs. She also stole 10 bases.

Sarb was used at both third base and designated hitter and she batted .368 with 39 hits in 106 at-bats while scoring 11 runs. She had three doubles, one triple, three home runs and 19 runs-batted-in.

Augustana finished the 2009 season with an overall record of 28-14 and a mark of 9-5 in the CCIW, good for third place in the team standings.
