2009 Season - Vikings fall to North Central in CCIW tournament
Despite holding an edge in hits, the Augustana Vikings dropped a 6-2 decision to North Central in the first round of the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin softball tournament on Friday, May 1 in Bloomington, Illinois. Augustana outhit the Cardinals 11-10 but North Central used a three run third and a two run fourth to secure the victory.
The Vikings struck first with a run in the top of the second. Brittany Snoreck (Carl Sandburg HS, Orland Park, Ill.) led off with a single to center field and then advanced to second on a wild pitch. She went to third on a single by Stephanie Sarb (Lisle HS, Lisle, Ill.). She scored on a single by Missy Fobert (Rock Island Alleman HS, Rock Island, Ill.). Augustana collected four hits in the inning but left the bases loaded.
North Central strung three hits together in the bottom of the third and scored three runs to go up 3-1. The lead reached 5-1 with two runs in the fourth and the Cardinals added another run in the sixth to make it 6-1.
The Vikings scored an unearned run in the seventh but a double play ended the threat and the game.
Chrissy Rosin (Niles West HS, Morton Grove, Ill.), Karlee Quaritsch (Palatine HS, Palatine, Ill.) and Christina Trojanowski (Evergreen Park HS, Evergreen Park, Ill.) each had two hits. However, Augustana stranded nine runners in the game.
Jackie Gill (Heyworth HS, Heyworth, Ill.) worked the first five innings and gave up five runs on seven hits and was tagged with the loss. She is now 13-6 on the season.
Augustana is 28-13 overall while North Central moved to 26-10.
