2009 Season - Women's track team ranked 12th in Division III

Week three of the NCAA Division III women’s track & field poll has the Augustana Vikings in 12th place. Veteran head coach Fred Whiteside’s team started the season ranked fifth and last week was seventh. This week the Vikings are 12 th with 172.43 points after being seventh the week before with 172.14 points in the poll, which is conducted the United States Track & Field/Cross Country Coaches Association.

Washington University jumped from fourth to first as the Bears have compiled 194.24 points. Wisconsin-Oshkosh is second with 189.72 points while Wisconsin-LaCrosse is third with 189.54. St. Thomas sits in fourth place with 187.42 and Tufts is fifth with 183.12.

Augustana, which is the defending College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin team champion, will get a chance to defend that title this weekend (May 1-2) at Carthage College in Kenosha, Wisconsin.

So far this year Augustana has won three invitationals. The Vikings took the Early Spring Opener on March 21, the Viking Olympics on March 30 and the Augustana Invitational on April 17. They were fourth of 17 teams at the Central of Iowa Invitational and they were third of 10 at the Lee Calhoun Memorial Relays. In both the Central Invitational and the Calhoun Relays, Augustana was the first NCAA Division III team in the standings.
