2009 Season - Vikings stay atop track and field rankings
Heading into the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin meet this weekend the Augustana men’s track & field team has maintained its number one ranking in NCAA Division III. The Vikings of veteran head coach Paul Olsen are the defending CCIW champions and for the second week in a row are ranked first in the United States Track & Field/Cross Country Coaches Association dual meet poll. The Vikings of veteran head coach Paul Olsen finished the 2008 season ranked number one in the nation and were seventh in the 2009 indoor campaign.
The CCIW meet will be held on Friday, May 1 and Saturday, May 2 at Carthage College in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Three teams that are currently ranked in the top 25 in NCAA Division III will be among the teams vying for the team title. Besides Augustana, North Central is ranked fourth and Carthage is 22 nd.
Augustana has 211.85 points, which is close to the Vikings point total of last week (211.03). Wisconsin-Oshkosh is second with 209.58 while Claremont-McKenna-Harvey-Mudd-Scripps is third with 209.51. Rounding out the top five is North Central in fourth (206.68) and Willamette in fifth (206.14).
