2009 Season - Softball team splits with Loras

ROCK ISLAND, Illinois – Augustana and Loras split a non-conference double header on Tuesday, April 28 at Carver Field. The Vikings won the first game 2-0 and fell in game two 10-6. Augustana is now 28-12 overall while Loras is 14-17.

GAME 1 – AUGUSTANA 2, LORAS 0

Jackie Gill (Heyworth HS, Heyworth, Ill.) and Erica Aten (Moline HS, Coal Valley, Ill.) combined on a three hitter as Augustana defeated Loras 2-0 in the first game of a non-conference double header. Gill worked the first five innings and allowed just two hits while striking out three as she moved her record to 13-6 on the season. Aten came in and pitched the final two innings and gave up one hit while striking out two as she recorded the save, her first of the season.

Stephanie Sarb (Lisle HS, Lisle, Ill.) hit a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth, her third of the year, to provide the only run the Vikings would need. In the bottom of the sixth Augustana scored again when Chrissy Rosin (Niles West HS, Morton Grove, Ill.) tripled with Melissa Nelson (West Aurora HS, Aurora, Ill.) on third.

Loras pitcher Michelle Sabatini pitched well in defeat, allowing just three hits and one walk.

GAME 2 – LORAS 10, AUGUSTANA 6

The Duhawks jumped all over Viking starter Erica Aten (Moline HS, Coal Valley, Ill.) with five runs in the first inning and Loras went on to a 10-6 victory in the nightcap. A two run home run by Emily Randecker was the big blow in the inning.

Loras added two more runs in the top of the second to go ahead 7-0 before Augustana struck with a single run in the bottom of the same frame. Brittany Snoreck (Carl Sandburg HS, Orland Park, Ill.) hit the first of her two home runs in the game. It led off the inning.

Two more runs went up for the Duhawks in the top of the third to make it 9-1. In the bottom of the inning Snoreck homered again, this time a two run shot and the lead was down to 9-4. The Vikings added single runs in the sixth and seventh and Loras scored once in the top of the fifth.

Michelle Sabatini, who pitched every inning in the double header for Loras, got the win as she minimized the damage of 12 hits by the Vikings. Snoreck and Missy Fobert (Rock Island Alleman HS, Rock Island, Ill.) each had three hits to lead the Augustana attack.
