The college continues to follow CDC guidelines for prevention. Students are asked to take precautionary measures. Wash your hands frequently with soap and water or use alcohol-based hand cleaners. Avoid touching eyes, nose or mouth and cover your own nose and mouth with a tissue when coughing or sneezing. If you do not feel well, stay away from others.

A virus spreads from person to person, generally through coughing or sneezing, but also sometimes by touching one’s mouth or nose with unwashed hands. Infected people can spread the flu without feeling sick.

Flu symptoms:

  • High fever
  • Sore throat
  • Body aches
  • Cough
  • Headache
  • Chills
  • Fatigue
  • Occasional nausea or diarrhea

If students exhibit flu-like symptoms:

  • Seek medical attention by calling the Dean of Students Office at 309-794-7533 or Medical Support Services at (309) 794-2693 or (309) 236-5808. Staff is available to help determine whether students should see a physician, self-isolate on campus or go home.
  • An infected student will most likely exhibit a fever, plus at least one more symptom.
  • If a student is diagnosed with H1N1, the Dean of Students Office or Medical Support Services will notify professors, coordinate meals, trip to the doctor or other needs.
