Exhibit: Liberal Arts through the AGES
2010 Sesquicentennial Celebration
Nov. 17, 2009-March 27, 2010
Augustana Art Museum, Centennial Hall; hours noon-4 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday Sept.-May when classes are in session
This introduction to Western visual art history and its multicultural links builds on the previous Augustana College Art Museum exhibitions and three former catalogues prepared for the AGES Liberal Studies program.
Dr. Catherine Carter Goebel, Paul A. Anderson Chair in the Arts and professor of art history, is creator, editor and faculty curator for these projects. The current revised Augustana first-year textbook, Liberal Arts through the AGES: a Sesquicentennial Celebration, to which this exhibition corresponds, examines both written and visual primary documents across the history of civilization, including many works of art from the college collection.
The project is supported by the Paul A. Anderson Chair in the Arts, the Augustana College Art History Department, the Augustana College Art Museum, and donors who have kindly lent and given pieces for exhibition, and contributes to initiating the celebration of the college's 2010 sesquicentennial celebration and closing it through next winter's re-exhibition.
