2009 Season - Duhai is double winner at Loras Open

Vikings also compete at Drake Relays

Currently ranked seventh in NCAA Division III, the Augustana women’s track & field team tuned up for its defense of the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin title by competing in a two different meets this past weekend. Part of the team went to the Loras Open in Dubuque, Iowa on Saturday, April 25 while the rest competed in the prestigious Drake Relays on Friday and Saturday, April 24-25 in Des Moines, Iowa.

At the Loras Open the Vikings won three individual events. Kelsey Duhai (Woodstock HS, Woodstock, Ill.) was a double winner, taking the long jump with a leap of 16’ 7” and winning the triple jump with a mark of 35’ 2”. Allison Schaley (Cary Grove HS, Cary, Ill.) won the 400 hurdles with a time of 1:04.95.

The 400 relay team was second in :53.12 and the 1600 relay unit placed fourth in 4:16.54. Susan Thompson (Glenbard South HS, Glen Ellyn, Ill.) finished seventh in the 800 with a time of 2:30.99 and Caitlin Quinn (Metamora HS, Metamora, Ill.) was eighth in the pole vault with a clearance of 10’ 0”.

Stiff competition is always a staple at the Drake Relays and this year was no exception. The Vikings competed in six relay events and recorded three top-ten finishes. The 800 relay unit of Ainsley Fedler (Burlington HS, Burlington, Iowa), Kai Frazier (United Township HS, East Moline, Ill.), Keli Coleman (Carmel HS, Grayslake, Ill.) and Brittney Bennett (Annawan HS, Annawan, Ill.) took sixth with a time of 1:46.56 for the best Augustana place in the meet. The sprint medley squad of Fedler, Lindsey Homfeldt (Ottawa Marquette HS, Ottawa, Ill.), Krista Dayton (Grinnell HS, Grinnell, Iowa) and Hannah Hottle (Monmouth-Roseville HS, Monmouth, Ill.) took seventh in 4:11.24. The 3200 relay of Samantha Laskowski (Reavis HS, Oak Lawn, Ill.), Meaghan Reaney (Lincoln Way Central HS, New Lenox, Ill.), Krystal Damiano (Cary Grove HS, Cary, Ill.) and Rachael Latham (Burlington Central HS, Elgin, Ill.) finished 10th in 9:32.06.

One Augustana athlete competed individually at Drake and that was Marissa Banks (Ames HS, Ames, Iowa), who was 18th in the discus with a toss of 136’ 5”.
