2009 Season - Baseball team falls to North Park 6-4
CHICAGO, Illinois – A 6-4 College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin loss to North Park on Saturday, April 25 stretched Augustana’s losing streak to five straight. The Vikings, now 21-12 on the season committed two costly errors in a four run third inning for North Park.
Mike Trotta (Niles Notre Dame HS, Chicago, Ill.) pitched well, going 7 2/3 innings and scattering eight hits while striking out seven. He allowed six runs in the game but only two were earned. In the decisive third inning, all four of the North Park runs were unearned.
The Vikings took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning when Myles Kurnick (Buffalo Grove HS, Arlington Heights, Ill.) belted a one out, solo home run. It would be the first of three home runs for Augustana on the day.
Trailing 4-1 heading into the top of the eight the Vikings tied the game with three runs. Aaron Hopson (Rockford Boylan HS, Rockford, Ill.) hit a home run with Izzo on board to make it 4-3 and T.J. O’Donnell (New Trier HS, Northbrook, Ill.) nailed a solo shot later in the inning to knot the game at 4-4.
North Park bounced back with two runs in the bottom of the eighth to reclaim the lead.
Kurnick, O’Donnell and John Wagle (Rock Island HS, Rock Island, Ill.) all had two hits to lead the way for Augustana.
