2009 Season - Banks, Quinn score wins as Augie takes invite

ROCK ISLAND, Illinois – The fifth ranked Augustana Vikings rolled up 222.50 points to claim the team title at the Augustana Invitational on Friday, April 17 at Paul V. Olsen Track. Veteran head coach Fred Whiteside’s unit, which earlier in the day learned that it was ranked fifth in the first NCAA Division III poll of the outdoor season, showed an impressive display of depth in defeating runner-up Monmouth by nearly 40 points. The Fighting Scots were second with 184.50 points. Luther took third (150) with Wisconsin-Stevens Point placing fourth (141). Wisconsin-Platteville (121), St. Ambrose (99) and Illinois College (18) rounded out the field.

Augustana won two individual events and two relays and scored points in all but two of the 23 events in the meet. Marissa Banks (Ames HS, Ames, Iowa) won the hammer with a toss of 148’ 2” and Caitlin Quinn (Metamora HS, Metamora, Ill.) took the pole vault with a clearance of 10’ 2 ¾”. The 3200 relay team won with a time of 9:40.17 and the 800 sprint medley took first in 1:54.00. Banks was also second in the shot put with a mark of 43’ 5” and third in the discus at 139’ 11”.

The 400 relay team took second in :49.43 and the 1600 relay squad was second in 4:00.20. Kelsey Duhai (Woodstock HS, Woodstock, Ill.) placed second in the triple jump (35’ 7 ¾”) and second in the long jump (17’ 2”). Paula Neiweem (Warren Township HS, Gurnee, Ill.) finished second in the hammer throw at 146’ 10”. She was also seventh in the shot (37’ 10”) and eighth in the discus (113’ 9”). Hannah Hottle (Monmouth-Roseville HS, Monmouth, Ill.) placed second in the 1500 with a time of 4:52.19.

Keli Coleman (Carmel HS, Grayslake, Ill.) finished third in the 100 in :12.78. Allison Schaley (Cary-Grove HS, Cary, Ill.) was third in the 400 intermediate hurdles in 1:06.04. Ella Mathieson (Lyons Township HS, LaGrange, Ill.) finished third in the long jump with a leap of 16’ 10 ½” and fourth in the triple jump at 33’ 10 ¼”. Libby Geison (Bloomington HS, Bloomington, Ill.) cleared 9’ 9” to take third in the pole vault.

Sarah Johnson (Grayslake North HS, Lake Villa, Ill.) placed fourth in the 3000 steeplechase with a time of 12:47.0. Kristin Sattizahn (Erie HS, Erie, Ill.) was fourth in the 10,000 in 41:55.39. Maggie Furlong (Davenport Assumption HS, Davenport, Iowa) hurled the javelin 111’ 1”.

Ainsley Fedler (Burlington HS, Burlington, Iowa) placed fifth in the 100 (:12.88) and seventh in the 200 (:27.24). Krista Dayton (Grinnell HS, Grinnell, Iowa) was fifth in the 200 in :27.16. Samantha Pancamo (Wauconda HS, Wauconda, Ill.) took fifth in the 10,000 in 42:00.56 and Catherine Foreman (St. Joseph-Ogden HS, St. Joseph, Ill.) was fifth in the javelin with a toss of 110’ 11”. Lindsey Homfeldt (Ottawa Marquette HS, Ottawa, Ill.) finished fifth in the 400 hurdles with a time of 1:07.01.

Kai Frazier (United Township HS, East Moline, Ill.) placed sixth in the 100 in :12.89. Karlene Fox (DeKalb HS, DeKalb, Ill.) was sixth in the 3000 steeplechase with a time of 13:10.0. Megan Timmerman (Mundelein HS, Mundelein, Ill.) was sixth in the high jump with a leap of 4’ 9 ¾”. Susan Thompson (Glenbard South HS, Glen Ellyn, Ill.) took seventh in the 400 in 1:02.32 and Krystal Damiano (Cary-Grove HS, Cary, Ill.) was seventh in the 800 in 2:24.86. Ellen Adams (Glenbard West HS, Glen Ellyn, Ill.) placed seventh in the 1500 in 4:58.37 while Anita Maurer (Downers Grove North HS, Downers Grove, Ill.) was seventh in the 3000 steeplechase in 13:13.1. Ashlee Calderone (Sherrard HS, Matherville, Ill.) finished seventh in the javelin with a throw of 97’ 0” and eighth in the 10,000 with a time of 46:00.14. Kristy Klouda (West Chicago HS, Winfield, Ill.) placed eighth in the high jump with a leap of 4’ 8 ¼”.
