2008-2009 Season - Kyle Weigand is sixth after first day of CCIW men's golf tournament with even par 72
SPRINGFIELD, Illinois – Sophomore Kyle Weigand (Leyden HS, Franklin Park, Ill.) shot an even par 72 on the first day of the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin men’s golf tournament. Weigand was consistent over the 6,630 yard layout at The Rail in Springfield, Illinois. He had a 36 on the front nine and came back with a 36 on the back nine and ended the day in sixth place individually.
Augustana shot 308 as a team and was in seventh place in the standings. Illinois Wesleyan leads the team race at 281 with Carthage in second at 288. Millikin and Wheaton both shot 301 to tie for third while North Central is in fifth with a 305 and Elmhurst is one stroke ahead of the Vikings in sixth place with a 307. North Park is eighth with a 327.
The individual leader is Bennett Blakeman of Illinois Wesleyan with a four under par 68 (32-36). His teammate, Mike DeRuntz is in second with a three under par 69 (34-35).
Phil Litchfield (Benet Academy, Darien, Ill.) is the next Augustana scorer with a 77 (39-38) while Cole Wells (Tri-Valley HS, Downs, Ill.) shot a 78 (37-41). Jordan Henry (Erie HS, Erie, Ill.) came home with an 81 (36-45) and Ted Keopple (Geneseo HS, Geneseo, Ill.) recorded an 83 942-41).
This is the first day of a four day tournament. The second round will be Saturday, April 18 and that will also be contested at The Rail. Two weeks from now, on May 1-2, the tournament will conclude at Whisper Creek in Huntley, Illinois.
