Campus invited to Sustainability Summit

Don't miss the first-ever Quad Cities Intercollegiate Sustainability Summit! There will be things to learn and talk about, a catered reception and IMAX movies.

All students, faculty, employees and their families are invited to the Earth Week event on Tuesday, April 21, at the Putnam Museum and IMAX Theatre in Davenport. Shuttles from Augustana will take students several times during the day. Admission is $3 a person, which covers IMAX movies, general admission to the museum and the summit and reception. Be sure to bring a college ID.

St. Ambrose University, Western Illinois University, Black Hawk College, and Eastern Iowa Community Colleges also will participate so the college communities can learn about sustainability efforts at each campus. There will be presentations from each of the participating schools from 1-5 p.m. Augustana's will feature people involved in the Augie Acres project, a student-run effort to establish a garden and orchard.

The reception will take place from 5-7 p.m., offering healthy catered food and a cash bar serving locally brewed beer. Everybody is welcome to the reception, regardless of whether they participate in the meeting. There will be tables and booths with information from all participating schools.

At 7 p.m. there will be a dedicated showing of the IMAX film "Under the Sea in 3D" for students, faculty, staff members and families. There will be afternoon IMAX shows in the afternoon as well, including "Under the Sea" at 12:30 and 2:50; "Dolphins at 1:40 and 5:10; and "Bugs! 3D" at 4 p.m. Family members also will be admitted for $3.

If you would like to display information at the summit, or for more details, contact Jeff Strasser, chair of the campus Sustainability Committee.
