Health Care
Although Augustana does not operate a health service on campus, the Dean of Students Office provides students with easy access to health care providers in the Quad Cities. Between 7:30 a.m. and 6 p.m., Monday-Friday, the college operates a free shuttle (dial 9-781-5711) which will pick students up anywhere on campus and transport them to and from any physician's office, pharmacy, dental office, mental health facility or optometrist's office. At other times, a local cab company similarly transports students free of charge.
If your son or daughter needs to see a physician on a routine basis (e.g., for allergies), we urge you to establish a relationship with a local physician for regular treatment. If you need help finding a doctor, please contact the Coordinator of Medical Support(x2693).
If students do not have a local physician, and do not need emergency treatment, we recommend the Trinity ExpressCare Clinic ((309)-779-7050, 106-19th Ave. Moline, IL), open seven days a week. Students may provide proof of insurance or pay for services upon arrival with cash, check or credit card. Students may obtain a loan from the Dean of Students if they do not have adequate financial resources for ExpressCare expenses. The Trinity Express Care Clinic is operated by Trinity Medical Center ((309)-779-5000) and may be covered by your HMO or PPO.
Trinity Medical Center operates two hospitals within approximately a six-minute drive of campus. Although these facilities can treat your student for minor illnesses, we urge you to encourage your sons and daughters to use emergency rooms only when there is a genuine emergency. For symptoms of a cold or flu, it is less expensive and more appropriate to use the ExpressCare Clinic, even if it means waiting until morning. If your son or daughter becomes ill, the Community Advisor (CA) or a friend can bring him or her a take-out meal from the cafeteria.
Student Health Insurance is available and you will receive information about this program during the summer. Claim forms are available online at www.gallagherkoster.com. Click on College & University Students then select Augustana College from the dropdown list. If you have further questions, please phone the Dean of Students Office (x7533).
Augustana has an Office of Counseling Services (x7357) for students who need professional assistance with emotional or personal problems. Counseling is provided without charge, and counselors are available Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. until 4 p.m., and evenings and weekends by special request. The Director of the Counseling Services is a liaison for students who need assistance from community
resources.
The campus Chaplain, Catholic Chaplain and Associate Chaplain also are available for counsel.
