2009 Season - Men's track & field team is ranked fourth in NCAA Division III in first poll of the season
Augustana is ranked fourth in the initial NCAA Division III men’s track & field outdoor poll released today by the United States Track & Field/Cross Country Coaches Association. The Vikings of veteran head coach Paul Olsen finished the 2008 season ranked number one in the nation and were seventh in the 2009 indoor campaign.
Claremont-McKenna-Harvey-Mudd-Scripps is ranked number one with 206.11 points while Willamette is in the second position with 198.60 points. North Central is in third with 196.71 while Augustana has accumulated 190.90 points in fourth. The rest of the top 10 looks like this: Wisconsin-Whitewater (fifth – 190.75), Whitworth (sixth – 187.50), Ohio Wesleyan (seventh – 187.01), Wisconsin-Oshkosh (eighth – 185.69), Emory (179.98) and Washington (179.83).
So far this season the Vikings have championships at the Early Spring Opener (March 21), Viking Olympics (March 30) and Wartburg Select (April 4). They were fifth at the Lee Calhoun Memorial Relays on April 11 but Augustana was the lone NCAA Division III school in the 10 team field.
