A Welcome from the Dean

Dear Parents,

Welcome to the Augustana family! Even though you yourself will not experience the rigors of the classroom, you are now part of our campus community. Our goal is to play a positive role in the transition now underway as your sons and daughters make plans to join the Augustana community. On campus, students live in a place designed to meet their needs 24 hours a day. In one sense, we take over your role of providing a setting in which your students can grow and develop. On the other hand, you will always be the parent, and it is our desire to work with you as your students undergo the changes necessary to produce independent, mature and well-rounded college graduates.

Augustana will challenge and support your students as they encounter new ideas and experiences during their college years. Our hope is that you also will encourage and empower them as challenges arise. Our goal, beginning today, is to equip you to give your students the tools necessary for independent living. Sometimes this will mean referring your student to a particular person or resource on campus, other times it will mean listening and brainstorming solutions, and once in awhile you may even need to call the college for advice about how to best help your son or daughter succeed. Yet our hope is to allow students to do as much as they can for themselves, so that after graduation they will navigate the world and conduct their lives as well-rounded leaders and citizens.

This website provides you with important information about life at Augustana. It's a handy resource when you have questions or concerns, but not as detailed as the students' handbook, Inside Augustana. I encourage you to discuss Inside Augustana together, to make sure that they, and you, are aware of campus policies, services and opportunities. On this webpage is a list of important phone numbers. And since we are a relatively small school, you can always dial 1-800-798-8100 (794-7000 if local) to request the appropriate person or department.

We are glad that you and your young person have chosen Augustana and we look forward to our next four years together.Dr. Evelyn Campbell

Sincerely,

Dr. Evelyn S. Campbell, Dean and Vice President of Student Services
