2008-2009 Season - Men's golf team takes fifth at Augustana Invitational; Kyle Weigand places fourth individually

ROCK ISLAND, Illinois – Sophomore Kyle Weigand (Leyden HS, Franklin Park, Ill.) put together two solid rounds at the Augustana Invitational on Friday, April 10 and Saturday, April 11 to lead the Vikings to a fifth place finish in the team standings. Weigand shot three over par 147 in the two day event at Highland Springs Golf Course in Rock Island. He was an even par 72 on Friday and then came back with a three over par 75 on Saturday. Weigand was tied for fourth individually in the 17 team field.

The individual winner was Tyler Wollberg of Carthage with a fine score of 137, which is seven under par on the 6,777 yard layout. Wollberg had rounds of 69 and 68. Patrick Breitbach of St. Ambrose was second at 144 (75-69) with Dusty Drenth of St. Ambrose taking third at 145 (75-70). Weigand tied for fourth with Andrew Delaney of Benedictine. Delaney shot the exact opposite of Weigand, going 75 on Friday and 72 on Saturday.

Augustana recorded a two day total of 613 to place fifth. The Vikings shot 317 on Friday in cold and windy conditions and then came back with a 296 on Saturday under better weather conditions. Carthage won the team title with a 587 (302 & 285) while St. Ambrose was second at 590 (305 & 285). Benedictine placed third at 594 (305 & 289) with Black Hawk finishing fourth with a score of 609 (312 & 297). Monmouth finished sixth with a 615 (310 & 305). Augustana had a second team place 11th with a total of 648 (332 & 316).

Sophomore Phil Litchfield (Benet Academy, Darien, Ill.) was the next best Augustana finisher with a 150 (79 & 71). He tied for 10th in the individual standings. Freshman Jordan Henry (Erie HS, Erie, Ill.) shot 154 (80 & 74) with sophomore Ted Keopple (Geneseo HS, Geneseo, Ill.) checking in at 163 (86 & 77). Junior Zach Kinscherf (Quincy Notre Dame HS, Quincy, Ill.) recorded a 167 with a second round of 76 after shooting 91 on the first day.

Freshman Greg Karesh (Downers Grove South HS, Downers Grove, Ill.) led the Augustana #2 team with a two day total of 158 (79 & 79).
