2009 Season - Vikings win three events at first day of Lee Calhoun Memorial Relays in women's track & field

MACOMB, Illinois - Augustana won three events on the first day of the Lee Calhoun Memorial Relays on Friday, April 10 in Macomb, Illinois. The Vikings took first in three relays and one individual event and lead the team standings by a wide margin. Augustana has 76 points while runner-up Western Illinois has 27. Bradley is third with 14, Ashford is fourth with 11. Iowa (8), Chicago State (6) and Illinois State (2) round out the field.

The Vikings are the lone NCAA Division III team in the field. Ashford is an NAIA school while Western Illinois, Bradley, Iowa, Chicago State and Illinois State are all NCAA Division I.

Marissa Banks (Ames HS, Ames, Iowa) won the hammer throw with a toss of 151' 5" for the individual victory for Fred Whiteside's team. The 3200 relay team of Rachel Latham (Burlington Central HS, Elgin, Ill.), Samantha Laskowski (Reavis HS, Oak Lawn, Ill.), Allison Schaley (Cary Grove HS, Cary, Ill.) and Hannah Hottle (Monmouth-Roseville HS, Monmouth, Ill.) took first with a time of 9:48.67. The 400 shuttle hurdle relay team of Lindsey Homfeldt (Ottawa Marquette HS, Ottawa, Ill.), Schaley, Brittney Bennett (Annawan HS, Annawan, Ill.) and Valerie Bustle (Geneseo HS, Geneseo, Ill.) won with a time of 1:14.78.

Ellen Adams (Glenbard West HS, Glen Ellyn, Ill.) was second in the 3000 with a clocking of 10:42.49 and Paula Neiweem (Warren Township HS, Gurnee, Ill.) placed fourth in the hammer with a toss of 135' 8".

The second day of the meet will be on Saturday, April 11.
