2008-2009 Season - Kyle Weigand is third and Vikings seventh after day one of Augustana men's golf invitational
ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - Kyle Weigand (Leyden HS, Franklin Park, Ill.) fired an even par 72 to lead the way for the Vikings after the first day of the 2009 Augustana Invitational. Weigand was in third place as he battled chilly and windy conditions on Friday, April 10 at Highland Springs Golf Course in Rock Island.
Tyler Wollberg of Carthage leads the field with a 69 and Tim Walters of Benedictine is in second with a 71. Weigand is just ahead of Jake Schertz of St. Ambrose, who shot a 73.
Augustana is seventh in the team standings in the 15 team field with a score of 317. Carthage leads after the first day with a 302, followed by St. Ambrose and Benedictine, who are tied for second with identical scores of 305. Monmouth is fourth at 310 with Black Hawk in fifth with 312 and St. Ambrose #2 in sixth at 313. Rounding out the field behind Augustana is Edgewood (319), Elmhurst (325), Monmouth #2 (326), Ashford (332), Augustana #2 (332), Palmer (333), Knox (333) and Dubuque (353).
Phil Litchfield (Benet Academy, Darien, Ill.) was the next lowest score for Augustana with a 79, which was good for 20th place. Jordan Henry (Erie HS, Erie, Ill.) had an 80. Ted Keopple (Geneseo HS, Geneseo, Ill.) shot 86 and Zach Kinscherf (Quincy Notre Dame HS, Quincy, Ill.) came home with a 91.
On the Vikings number two squad Greg Karesh (Downers Grove South HS, Downers Grove, Ill.) shot 79.
Action resumes on Saturday, April 11 with the second, and final round.
