2009 Season - Banks wins discus; Augustana finishes fourth as top division III team at Central of Iowa women's track & field invitational

PELLA, Iowa – Junior Marissa Banks (Ames HS, Ames, Iowa) won the discus competition at the Central of Iowa Invitational on a cold and windswept day in Pella, Iowa on Saturday, April 4. Banks fired the discus 150’ 2” to claim the lone individual victory for the Vikings at the meet. She also placed sixth n the hammer with a toss of 148’ 5”. Augustana scored a total of 84.5 points to finish fourth in the 17 team meet.

Minnesota-Duluth won the team title with 166.50 points while Northern Iowa was second with 149 and Drake was third with 94. Augustana was the top finisher among the NCAA Division III institutions represented in the field. Minnesota-Duluth is an NCAA Division II school while Northern Iowa and Drake both compete at the NCAA Division I level. Behind Augustana the rest of the field looked like this: Gustavus Adolophus (83.25), Central of Iowa (49), Luther (45.5), Grand View (45), Coe (41), Bethel (37), Iowa Central Community (27), Clarke (26), William Penn (6), North Iowa Area (3), Ashford & Knox (2.5) and Grinnell (0 ¼).

Kai Frazier (United Township HS, East Moline, Ill.) placed third in the 100 in :12.86 and Ainsley Fedler (Burlington HS, Burlington, Iowa) was fourth in :12.94. Frazier, Fedler, Krista Dayton (Grinnell HS, Grinnell, Iowa) and Keli Coleman (Carmel HS, Grayslake, Ill.) combined to place third in the 400 relay with a time of :50.81. Frazier, Ella Mathieson (Lyons Township HS, LaGrange, Ill.), Fedler and Coleman sped to fourth in the 800 relay in 1:52.65.

Jilian Rigert (St. Charles North HS, St. Charles, Ill.) took third in the 10,000 in 39:31.62 and Caitlin Quinn (Metamora HS, Metamora, Ill.) was third in the pole vault with a clearance of 10’ 0”. Hannah Hottle (Monmouth-Roseville HS, Monmouth, Ill.) took fourth in the 800 with a time of 2:20.01. The 3200 relay of Meaghan Reaney (Lincoln Way Central HS, New Lenox, Ill.), Rachael Latham (Burlington Central HS, Elgin, Ill.), Samantha Laskowski (Reavis HS, Oak Lawn, Ill.) and Susan Thompson (Glenbard South HS, Glen Ellyn, Ill.) finished fourth in 10:21.52. The 1600 relay of Allison Schaley (Cary Grove HS, Cary, Ill.), Dayton, Hottle and Lindsey Homfeldt (Ottawa Marquette HS, Ottawa, Ill.) was fifth in 4:09.13.

Kelsey Duhai (Woodstock HS, Woodstock, Ill.) was sixth in the long jump with a leap of 16’ 9 ¾”. Ellen Adams (Glenbard West HS, Glen Ellyn, Ill.) took seventh in the 5000 (18:40.60) and Kristin Sattizahn (Erie HS, Erie, Ill.) was seventh in the 10,000 (43:48.59). Libby Geison (Bloomington HS, Bloomington, Ill.) and Kristy Klouda (West Chicago HS, Winfield, Ill.) tied for eighth in the pole vault at 9’ 6 ¼”.
