Mid-River Writers Workshop 2009

Augustana College invites talented high school juniors and seniors to to apply to the Mid-River Writers Workshop, joining fiction writer Kelly Daniels, poet Rebecca Wee and other Augustana faculty for two weeks of writing, literary readings, field trips, discussion and camaraderie on our beautiful campus in Rock Island, Illinois.

This summer workshop is the equivalent of a three-credit, 100-level college introduction to creative writing course.

An essential part of the workshop will be exploration and reflection on the writer's environment --especially the natural world beyond the classroom. Along with faculty from biology and geography, writers will make a group venture to the forests, wetlands and prairies of Augustana's Green Wing environmental lab, and a boat trip up the Mississippi River to Dubuque, Iowa.

Visiting writer Eddy Harris will join the group during the field trip on the Mississippi. Harris is author of Mississipi Solo: A River Quest, documenting his solitary canoe trip down the river from its source in northern Minnesota to its delta at the gulf in New Orleans.
