2009 Season - Softball team beats Widener 13-2 to move to 7-1 on spring trip
KISSIMMEE, Florida – The Augustana Vikings beat Widener 13-2 on Thursday, March 5 at the Osceola County Softball Complex in Kissimmee, Florida. With the win the Vikings finished a successful spring trip to Florida with a 7-1 record.
Sheldon Ritzheimer (Wesclin HS, Trenton, Ill.) tossed a complete game, allowing five hits over seven innings with five strikeouts. She moved to 2-1 on the season.
The game was tied 2-2 heading into the top of the third inning when the Vikings scored two runs to take the lead for good. Christina Trojanowski (Evergreen Park HS, Evergreen Park, Ill.) led off the third with a double to left field. Karlee Quaritsch (Palatine HS, Palatine, Ill.) sacrificed Trojanowski to third. A double by Melissa Nelson (West Aurora HS, Aurora, Ill.) scored Trojanowski. Brittany Snoreck’s (Carl Sandburg HS, Orland Park, Ill.) single brought home Nelson with the second run of the inning.
In the top of the fourth Quaritsch doubled home Missy Fobert (Rock Island Alleman HS, Rock Island, Ill.), who had led off with a single to make it 5-2.
The Vikings broke the game wide open in the fifth with five runs on three hits and two costly Widener errors. Forbert’s two RBI single was the big blow in the inning.
Augustana knocked out 16 hits with Stephanie Sarb (Lisle Township HS, Lisle, Ill.) leading the way with three while Fobert and Trojanowski each had two.
