2009 Season - Softball team beats Eastern Mennonite 8-1
KISSIMMEE, Florida – A five run second inning and a strong pitching performance from Jackie Gill (Heyworth HS, Heyworth, Ill.) helped lift Augustana to an 8-1 victory over Eastern Mennonite at the Osceola County Softball Complex in Kissimmee, Florida on March 5. With the win the Vikings moved to 6-1 overall.
Augustana was leading 1-0 heading into the bottom of the second inning when the Vikings broke loose for five runs. With one out Dawn Kernich (Mt. Olive HS, Mt. Olive, Ill.) beat out a bunt single. She went to second on a passed ball. Jen Sloboda’s (Wheaton Warrenville South HS, Wheaton, Ill.) ground ball was misplayed for an error and Kernich went to third. Missy Fobert (Rock Island Alleman HS, Rock Island, Ill.) singled to score Kernich and pushed Sloboda to second. A double steal put Sloboda on third and Fobert on second. A wild pitch allowed Sloboda to score and Fobert went to third. Chrissy Rosin (Niles West HS, Morton Grove, Ill.) walked and stole second. With two outs Karlee Quaritsch (Palatine HS, Palatine, Ill.) homered to drive in Fobert and Rosin.
The Vikings added two runs in the bottom of the sixth for insurance purposes.
