2009 Season - Vikings collect 12 hits in 15-2 softball win over Mary Washington
KISSIMMEE, Florida – Offense was the name of the game as Augustana banged out 12 hits in a 15-2 victory over Mary Washington on Monday, March 2 at the Orange County Softball Complex in Kissimmee, Florida. The Vikings were locked in a 1-1 game when they exploded for nine runs in the bottom of the third and five in the bottom of the fourth to break things open. The game was shortened to just five inning because of the 10 run rule.
Jackie Gill (Heyworth HS, Heyworth, Ill.) gave up just one run in three innings as the starter and was credited with the victory. She got relief help from Jenna Szybowicz (Glenbard North HS, Carol Stream, Ill.), who worked the final two innings and posted two strikeout and gave up three hits and one run. Neither pitcher walked a single Mary Washington batter.
In the third inning Chrissy Rosin (Niles West HS, Morton Grove, Ill.) got things started with a one out single and before the frame ended the Vikings had nine hits and nine runs and had sent 13 batters to the plate. Melissa Nelson (West Aurora HS, Aurora, Ill.) and Rosin each had two RBI in the inning.
Not content with the nine run third, Augustana tacked on five more in the bottom of the fourth as Brittany Snoreck (Carl Sandburg HS, Orland Park, Ill.) led things off with a home run.
Rosin, Christine Trojanowski (Evergreen Park HS, Evergreen Park, Ill.), Snoreck and Stephanie Sarb (Lisle Township HS, Lisle, Ill.) all had two hits while Nelson collected three RBI. Rosin, Nelson and Snoreck all had doubles in the offensive barrage.
