2008-09 Season - North Park tops Vikings women

CHICAGO, Ill. – A cold shooting performance hurt Augustana in its final road game of the season as the team fell 51-46 at North Park on Saturday, February 21 in Chicago, Illinois. Augustana is now 3-21 overall and 1-12 in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin.

The teams traded the lead back and forth in the first eight minutes of the contest, but a bucket by North Park’s Amanda Phillips ignited a 9-0 run for the home team as North Park pulled out to an 18-10 advantage at the 8:13 mark. Augustana trailed the rest of the half, but used a 6-1 spurt in the final four minutes to close the gap to 26-20 at intermission.

Trailing 30-22 early in the second half, Augustana put together its best stretch of the game by scoring the next 10 points to grab a 32-20 edge with 15:39 to play. Freshman Natalie Runge (St. Dominic HS, O’Fallon, Mo.) scored five straight points after a basket from fellow freshman Lani Kasten (German Valley HS, Forreston, Ill.). Junior Kristen Fox (Ottawa HS, Ottawa, Ill.) converted a three point field goal to finish the scoring run and give Augustana the lead.

North Park rattled off the next six points and was able to hold off Augustana for the remainder of the contest to earn the victory. Augustana rallied to tie the game at 41-41 with 6:11 to play, but never could regain the lead.

Fox (pictured above) led the visitors with 13 points and Runge was also in double figures with 10 points. Kasten had seven rebounds and freshman Brianna Skeens (Vernon Hills HS, Vernon Hills, Ill.) added seven boards of her own in 12 minutes of action off the bench. Senior Sarah Rachwalski (Amos Alonzo Stagg HS, Palos Hills, Ill.) scored nine points and snared six rebounds.

North Park was led in scoring by 16 points from Phillips. LaRae Kostreva added 15 points and a game high 11 rebounds.
