2009-10 Season - Megan Lonergan puts together a terrific day in the pool as Vikings finish fifth at CCIW Championship

WHEATON, Illinois – Senior Megan Lonergan (Bettendorf HS, Bettendorf, Iowa) saved her best performances for the third and final day of the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin championship at Wheaton College.  Lonergan took runner-up honors in the 1650 freestyle (17:50.68) and was third in the 200 butterfly (2:15.75) to lead the Vikings.

Wheaton won the team championship with 872 points with Carthage close behind in second with 855.  Illinois Wesleyan was third with 629 points.  Rose-Hulman took fourth with 297 points, narrowly ahead of Augustana.  The Vikings earned the fifth spot with 273 points.  Millikin (232) and North Central (175) rounded out the field. 

Sophomore Tonya Walter (Prospect HS, Mt. Prospect, Ill.) finished fourth in the one meter diving event with 292.80 points.  Junior Sara Hlavin (St. Viator HS, Elk Grove Village, Ill.) and freshman Jessica Fair (Ashton Franklin Center HS, Franklin Grove, Ill.) each added a ninth place individual finish.  Hlavin completed the 200 backstroke with a clocking of 2:22.22 and Fair hit the finish line in a time of :56.11 in the 100 freestyle.  Junior Emma Moran (Bettendorf HS, Bettendorf, Iowa) placed 15th in the 200 butterfly (2:37.59) and junior Kaitlyn Babicz (Charlotte Catholic HS, Oconomowoc, Wis.) was 16th in the 200 breaststroke (2:58.41).

Fair, sophomore Emily Cox (Pioneer HS, Ann Arbor, Mich.), Hlavin, and Lonergan earned a fifth place showing in the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 3:52.35.  Babicz, senior Mary Galloway (Schaumburg HS, Schaumburg, Ill.), senior Laura Anderson (Redwood Valley HS, Redwood Falls, Minn.), and sophomore Courtney Carlisle (Prospect HS, Mt. Prospect, Ill.) were 12th in the race with a clocking of 4:26.17.
